Ordinary Lies, not so Ordinary Lives

Tonight sees Ordinary Lies air its third episode of the series, and over the weekend, I caught up with the first two episodes.

With series' like this, I sometimes like to keep them all saved up and watch them in one go, but I was so desperate to tune in to Ordinary Lies, I could only get up to episode two before having to get my beady eyes on it - and I'm glad I did!

The first episode, which saw Jason Manford's character, Marty, a salesman at JS Motors, unravel in a world of desperate lies, I found amusing as well as rather sad,
He seemed like he had no get up and go, didn't really care about work, or much else for that matter, until he was given notice that if he were late for his job just once more - he'd be out. Of course, he was, and then told the terrible lie that his wife had died! Why? I don't know, he didn't know. But it opened a can of worms bigger than the 4x4 on the forecourt!
In Marty's 'grief' he sleeps with colleague, Grace, who didn't seem shy in coming on to the husband who had just lost his wife.
One of my favourite scenes was when PA Kathy, played by Sally Lindsey, became suspicious of Marty and went to his house. Of course, she met Marty's dead wife, and the episode culminated in Marty and his missus, who seemed to forgive him, going to his workplace, admitting what he'd done. After his lie, Marty looked more in contri=ol of his life, he was happier both at work and home.
But, surely, Grace's mini-obsession with Marty won't just disappear? Will it be revealed that they had a one-night stand?

We also saw glimpses of Mike, the boss, and his chemistry with Beth, head of HR, played by Max Beesley and Jo Joyner. Beth's husband disappeared a year ago - is he dead or alive? Mike's in a unhappy marriage - the pair have begun an affair. The on-screen chemistry between the two is great, but Jo is one of my favourite actresses, so I think I'm biased, anyway.
Over ep's one and two, we see that there's more than meets the eye with Beth's hubby going awol. She's found phone records, and hands them to the investigating officer, which he traces - to another employee at JS Motors. What's this person hiding?

Episode two was my favourite, so far. It was highly anticipated, anyway, because of it starring Michelle Keegan, in her first role since Corrie.
Michelle plays Tracy, a receptionist, who goes on holiday with her pal, and fellow receptionist, Viv. Telling their colleague's and families that they're flying out to Ibiza, the two girls instead head to the Dominican Republic. But the dream holiday has been paid for by Tracy's boyfriend, who has convinced the girls to smuggle drugs back to the UK. Wanting to live the high life, and knowing they will get a good pay out at the end, the girls agree.
But Viv gets caught, and Tracy can't live with the guilt.
After being dumped by her man after doing his dirty deeds, and Viv's parents showing up at JS Motors to confront her, Tracy's world spirals.
She eventually comes clean, and confesses the whole truth to police. With there not being enough evidence to charge her, Tracy is free to go, but must prosecute against her ex, when police catch up with him. The truth is also not enough to help Viv, who is still in prison over in the Dominican...
I loved the drama in this episode, and Michelle was great in the role. I was on the edge of my seat, as Viv was caught and interrogated. It showed the seriousness of a situation, which some people think would be such an easy way to make money. I hope that it hit home. The domino effect that it had on Viv's family, Tracy's family and also her colleagues was also very emotive.

Episode three tonight promises more drama, as it focuses on Kathy, who meets a dodgy online date, after being in a loveless marriage of her own.
Her tryst has life-shattering consequences when she finds herself witness to a brutal and violent crime.
Kathy’s own morals are put to the test and she has to decide whether to step forward with crucial evidence or keep quiet and protect her secret life...

What will happen to these not-so-ordinary lives, in tonight's Ordinary Lies?

Have you been enjoying the series so far?

HOLLYOAKS - New trailer reveals shockers!

Hollyoaks has released its Spring 2015 trailer, to reveal what's in store for the Oaks families over the next few weeks...

The Gloved-Hand Killer brings more danger to the village hospital, Mercedes returns and someone gets...SHOT!

Grace and Freddie's feud, which has seen the 'Barbie gangster' try to frame poor Fred for killing the very much alive Mercedes, comes to a head, on his wedding day to Lindsey. Someone ends up on the wrong end of a bullet. But who?

There's also more wedding drama as Ziggy and Leela prepare to wed. We all know that Ziggy hearts Tegan really, and he shares a snog with his brides sister. Will those Roscoe boys ever end up out of trouble?

Sinead will soon find out about John Paul's secret kiss with his student Harry, which ultimately leads to a furious reaction from his hubby Ste when he learns the truth.
But JP didn't even know that Harry was a student of his at the time, and Ste has put JP through the mill  just a bit lately, so surely he forgives him? But I know that Sinead is secretly falling in love with Ste, and wants them to be a family when their baby daughter is born. Uh-oh!

Elsewhere, Zöe Lucker's arrival as Porsche, Celine and Cleo's mother Reenie threatens to reveal a dark history for the new McQueen ducklings and Kim's obsession with Grace grows further.
There's also a surprising direction for Dylan as he starts cross-dressing (whatever will Trevor say!)

Sinead's troublemaking cousin Scott also soon shows up and Patrick continues to come to terms with his fatal illness

What storyline are you most looking forward to?

HOLLYOAKS - Brave move for Patrick's exit

Hollyoaks have never shied away from hard-hitting, emotive plots, and Patrick Blake has been the centre of many since he first arrived in the village.

He's been the monster father and the monster partner, but Patrick is hiding a secret illness which he will soon succumb to - motor neurone disease.

Next month, Patrick will confide in Theresa McQueen that he has the same disease which killed his father. We've seen him threaten Dr S'avage, after collapsing, when he wanted to look in to Patrick's family history,
Patrick has also had what looks like leg cramps, which has been picked up on by both Maxine and his granddaughter, Nico.

To avoid threatening his chances of securing custody of he and Maxine's baby daughter Minnie, Patrick wants to keep his suspicions quiet, as he comes to terms with recognising the signs of the disease. However, he will find it increasingly difficult to keep his secret as the storyline progresses.

I think this will be an interesting and emotional story to watch, as no soap, from what I remember has tackled motor neurone disease, which is a fatal and rapidly progressive disorder that affects the brain and spinal cord. It attacks the nerves that control movement and can leave people locked in a failing body - unable to move, talk, and eventually, breathe.

Seeing a character like Patrick, who's constantly in need of being in control, come face to face with it will bring a range of different emotions.
Patrick is dislike by many, because of his treatment of his family and Maxine. He's done some unforgivable things, but I can see us viewers also feeling for him as he tries to fight his last battle.

We don't know yet how Patrick does eventually die, and Oaks bosses aren't saying when he'll depart.

Speaking of the new plot, Jeremy Sheffield, who plays Patrick, said:

"I'm honoured to have been involved in some of the show's biggest storylines over the last couple of years. I hope Patrick's upcoming journey will captivate people's hearts and minds.
For Patrick the idea of not being in control, of relinquishing his power is unthinkable and it will be interesting to see how the man who needs to control everything and everyone in his life copes with something that he cannot influence. Working with the Motor Neurone Disease Association has proved invaluable for researching this role."

Patrick's death will also lead to questions on how his loved - or not so loved - ones will cope, especially his daughter, Sienna, who is about to be released from being sectioned for a second time. We know that poor Si Si has her issues because of her upbringing with Patrick, and his control of her.

Will this tip her over the edge further?

And how will Patrick eventually meet his maker?

Back to the Future Special

Is there nothing Keith Lemon can't put his funny little hand to?

His sketch show went down better than free chocolate brownies in the workplace, he's still going strong hosting Through the Keyhole and Celebrity Juice, well, that speaks for itself!

But now, the funny (in more ways than one!) man is going to host a tribute to Back to the Future!

Keith Lemon's Back to the Future Tribute will air on ITV2 this Autumn to coincide with the film's 30th anniversary and the day crazy character Marty McFly travelled to in the future!

The 90-minute special will see Keth reenact some of his fave Back to the Future scenes with the help of his celeb pals!

Paddy McGuinness will take on the role of Biff, Gino D'Acampo will play Doc and McBusted will perform 'Johnny B Goode' - sounds a hoot!

Iconic locations from the film will also be visited and Keith will meet some of the cast members and crew, from the film.
He'll also have a natter o some of Back to the Future's biggest fans and have a go on a real hover board. That I can't wait to see!

Talking about the show, Keith said, in his own special way:

"Never did I fink 30 years ago I'd be on telly doing a 'docu-com' about 30 years of Back t' Future.
It's well documented that I'm a massive BTTF fan but I'm not well documented for mecking documentaries. I'm very excited. I feel like a geeky 40-year-old virgin, accept I'm not 40 and I've had loads of sex. Let's get that flux capacitor fluxing!"

I can't really remember the movie itself, so I'm going to try and have a butchers of it soon - but I do remember the Back to the Future ride, in Florida, which I loved as a child. Especially the part where it seems you get eaten by a dinosaur!

THE X FACTOR: 'Exciting changes ahead'

This year's The X Factor, will still be exactly that, but with a few surprise changes to the format and judge line-up, according to new rumours.

It's good news as far as I'm concerned, as a fan of the show, I think it needs a bit of a spruce up to keep us long-time viewers hooked and also to bring in a new bunch of sofa judges!

Richard Holloway, who is a producer on the show, has hinted according to The Mirror:

"There will be some exciting changes, The name of the show will stay the same but we are looking at format and the judges. There will be some surprises this year. But I can't go into detail... It is safe to say Simon is staying,"

Phew, I'm glad that Simon will still be there. Love him or hate him, he's everyone's secret favourite judge!
The current judges, Louis Walsh, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Mel B will be in talks next month about their part in the years series, with the judges officially named in May.

Richard Holloway also said:

"We have been making the show for 10 years and to make it popular you have to refresh the show. You need to look at every aspect and move with the times. There is an ongoing battle with Strictly. On overall volume they beat us last year. It has been a few years since we beat them on overall volume."It is quite interesting, the split of the audience. It is very defined."

What changes would you like to see happen?

EASTENDERS: Who's the lucky winner?

It was let slip over the weekend that one Walford resident will soon be hitting the jackpot - but who?

The lucky winner will come into a fortune after winning on a scratchcard, and apparently will be seen offering to buy Mick and the Carter family out of The Queen Vic.

The names linked to the big win are Ian Beale, Phil Mitchell, Kat and Alfie Moon and Dot Cotton, who's currently behind bars after telling police that she killed her son, Nick, after buying him the drugs which killed him and then failing to get help as he died.

But who do I think will get the win, and who do I think deserves it?

Well, I think the obvious option is Kat or Alfie, because of the hard times they had hit them lately. Kat is also set to take centre stage in a dramatic storyline, which sees her try to take her own life. Part of me hopes it will be one of the pair to win big, just because I don't think I can stand much more of their plight into needing help! I miss the cheeky Alfie Moon and the loved up happy go lucky couple they once were. Even if they don't get back together, I miss the friendship they had in their marriage...

But are Kat and Alfie too obvious?

Of course, it might not be any of the named few, and I highly doubt the Enders team allowing the Carters to sell The Vic - bar Peggy Mitchell, Mick and Linda ARE The Vic, now.
It'll be interesting if Ian's the winner, and I can seem him trying to buy every single business he can in Walford, expanding his empire, before cashing the cheque!
Ian and money never did go too well together and it'll be refreshing after his tragic year to see selfish, money mad Ian back. Just in time for his Muv, Kathy Beale, to make her shock shock return to his life... (*Bit off topic, but Jane and Kathy is a friendship NOT waiting to happen... I reckon she'll hate her daughter-in-law, and that's fireworks waiting to happen, right there!)

So, I guess we'll have to wait and see who wins big.

Exciting times ahead in Albert Square!

Who do you want the lucky resident to be?

Ordinary Lies

BBC1's new drama series Ordinary Lies begins this evening, and I'm looking forward to tuning in.
No only because the concept of the show intrigues me, but the cast line-up looks ab-fab!

We've got Michelle Keegan (Coronation Street), Jason Manford (Little Crackers), Jo Joyner (EastEnders), Max Beesley (Mad Dogs), Mackenzie Crook (Pirates of the Caribbean), Rebecca Callard (Glue), Sally Lindsay (Mount Pleasant) and Belinda Stewart-Wright (The Inbetweeners) to name a few.
It is Michelle Keegan's first TV role since leaving Corrie, so all eyes will be on her, as well as Jason Manford, who's another favourite.
But my absolute tellybox fave is Jo Joyner, so I'm looking forward to her performances most.

The show is based in a car showroom and focuses on a different character each week, proving that the most ordinary and simple lives can spiral out of control.

Tonight's first show of the six-part series concentrates on Jason Manford's character, Marty McLean. Marty is a family man, who's struggling at both work and at home. On his final warning, and exhausted, Marty sleeps through his alarm and is late for work. Knowing he could be fired, Marty lies that his wife has died! He doesn't know why he said it, but his untrue words soon begin to unravel a host of even more drama, especially as he gets close to colleague, Grace, played by Rebecca Callard.

Marty's lies also open up a can of worms and hurt for Head of Sales, Beth Corben, played by Jo Joyner, whose husband Dave went missing the year before. After receiving mysterious phone calls, she confides in Mike, played by Max Beesley, but with Mike’s marriage hanging in the balance, the chemistry between him and Beth is difficult for the pair to ignore.

There haven't been any more spoilers for the rest of the show's series just yet, but I think it's well worth a watch.

I can see myself being hooked already...

Ordinary Lies is on at 9pm tonight on BBC1.

Let me know what you think!

CORONATION STREET: Leanne Battersby in domestic violence plot

It;s going to be a massive summer over in Corrie for Leanne Battersby, as she suffers domestic violence at the hands of a loved one.

But it's the perpetrator who's the biggest shock of all.

Her 12-year-old son - Simon, will be the person causing Leanne's suffering.

The news was revealed just now on This Morning, in a poll where viewers had to choose which shock secret that wanted to hear.

I've got to admit, I was shocked at that one! Sweet little Simon has been through many traumas in his young life.
He lost his biological mum as a baby, his dad, Peter, was an alcoholic, he's survived a house fire and many more upsets. Is all of this the cause for his sudden change in personality, or will something else soon occur to tip the young'un over the edge?

I'm guessing Leanne, who adopted Simon from her marriage to Peter Barlow, will suffer in silence, without telling her partner, Kal, or Simon's grandad, Ken.

It's a hard hitting plot, for sure, which I'm looking forward to seeing pan out.

WATERLOO ROAD: School's out forever

Waterloo Road airs its final episode tonight, and I'm sad to see it go.

But we have been promised with a fitting end, by actress Rebecca Craven, who plays Rhiannon Salt in the BBC drama.

With the future of the school in jeopardy once again, the pupils and teachers are desperately trying to stop a merger with Havelock High, but will they succeed?

Rather than dwell on the upcoming final ep, I thought I'd celebrate Waterloo Road with some of my favorite, and most memorable, scenes from the entire series...

1. Sambuca Kelly's death

This was mentioned in last week's episode, and it was the one scene I remember welling me up. The infamous Kelly family were brash and loud, but Same, underneath her exterior was kind hearted and actually quite a softy,
After suffering headaches in secret, Sam had a seizure, and it soon became clear that she actually had a brain tumour.
Her family tried to keep the news from her that she was dying, but Sam found out for herself, from her doctor, and she soon passed away with her mother and Tom Clarkson by her side.

2. Tom Clarkson himself

Tom was everyone's favourite teacher, wasn't he? He was cool, good looking and always there.
He had numerous relationships with his fellow teachers, saved many a child's life and also found himself in plenty of bother.  It was while trying to help a troubled teen that Tom fell to his death from the school roof.
He was a true Waterloo Road hero!

3. Izzie's death

Who remembers teacher Izzie Redpath? She was also the copper who tried honey-trapping Phil Mitchell on EastEnders!
Izzie had an affair with none other than Tom Clarkson, but they soon married and were happy living with Izzie's daughters Chlo and Mika.
Izzie met a grizzly end, when she's stabbed in the school car park, trying to protect then-head Jack Rimmer.
Tom continued to look after Chlo and Mika as though they were his own...

4. Steph Haydock

Say no more. Denise Welch made a great character out of Steph and her hilariously awful French lessons!
She was a good teacher underneath but wasn't too great at the language she was getting the pupils to learn!
Steph gave some of the funniest Waterloo Road moments!

5. Grantley Budgen

Again, like Steph, Grantley wasn't the best teacher but knew his stuff. He also gave some of the funniest moments. But alongside that were two stand out tragic ones. Namely when his wife Fleur was suffering Dementia and sadly passed away, along with Grantley's own tragic death. He's betting on horses in the sky, I'm sure!

6. Moving to Scotland

I wasn't confident that this would work. But it did and it did so well...
The introduction of the school house has been one of the best outcomes of the Scotland move, not to mention the drama of the crash which occurred on the way, claiming the life of Denzil Kelly.

7. Mr Chalk and Kevin

Ah, Chalky! He was a fun teacher and his fostering of Kevin was one of the sweetest storylines of Waterloo Road times.

I could possibly list great memories of Waterloo Road all day long, I reckon. But I've got to stop somewhere! And seven is my lucky number!

Do you agree with mine?

Let me know what your fave moments have been as we bid farewell to school forever...

HOLLYOAKS - The Gloved Hand killer strikes a third

It's gonna be a bad, bad week (well, worse than usual!) for Diane O'Connor in Oaks this week, as not only is she shoved out of a window by Porsche McQueen, but the gloved hand killer also injects her with a lethal dose, while she recovers in hospital.

Diane's nightmare week begins when Porsche sees her hubby, Lockie's, lost watch on Diane's bedroom floor while she decorates.
Porsche is supposed to be decorating Sinead's room, but gets the two mixed up. At first she accuses Sinead of being the 'other woman' until Diane owns up.
It's during the scuffle that follows, when disaster strikes, and Diane slips on a roll of wallpaper and goes tumbling through the open window.

Luckily, she survives her fall, but it's later on in hospital that the real drama starts...

When the hospital find out the reason behind Diane and Porsche's scuffle, tongues start to wag. Of course we have been told that the suspects in the gloved hand case are Lindsey Butterfield, her sister Kim, Celine McQueen, Doctor S'avage and Tegan Lomax - who all work at the hosptal.

Doctor S'avage begins to berate Diane to Kim Butterfield, with Lindsey seen in the background, for sleeping with another woman's man - but would he really try to kill over something which is really not his business?

Kim and Lindsey are also two people who aren't directly involved in Diane, so unless they are just psychopaths (who knows in Hollyoaks!) would they either want to harm Di?

Celine, who while off duty, goes to see Diane and sticks up for her sister, Porsche. So could she, as a suspect, be the one who's bumping off people who she believes deserves to die?

But it's Tegan who in my mind ends up in the frame most here.
Doctor S'avage asks her to administer some pain killers to Diane, even though unqualified (that Doctor S'avage is a right un-pro!!). It's while Tegan is doing this that Diane reveals a bombshell to her, which could result in Tegan wanting rid of her...

You might be able to guess what the shock is - but I'm not a liberty to say!

It's while Diane's sleeping that the mystery hand returns and administers her the potentially lethal shot.

Will Diane die?

Watch all the drama unfold this week on C4 at 6.30pm and the first look followings at 7pm on E4...

HOLLYOAKS - Lindsey returns, but is all as it seems?

After going on the run with Freddie Roscoe and even abandoning her baby in the process - Lindsey Butterfield returns to Hollyoaks this week, protesting to her ex and Freddie's brother, Joe, that she is frightened of Freddie and believes he did kill Mercedes McQueen.

We all know that Mercy has been plotting with Grace Black to get Freddie framed, and she's in fact alive and well in France. Joe, too, is now in on the plan - but clever Lindsey is one step ahead of them all at the moment.

After returning to the village, it soon becomes clear that Lindsey and Freddie have concocted a plan to catch Grace out, thinking she's the one who murdered Mercy.
Grace is soon freaked out, thinking that Mercedes is playing games with her, when she receives haunting reminders of her partner in crime.

Joe then tries to warn Grace about some evidence that Lindsey has found, but Lindsey gets to DS Thorpe first and heads to The Loft in order to confront Grace with their findings.

Later, Lindsey tries to convince Theresa and Celine of Grace's guilt but will they believe her?

Jen Metcalfe is soon to return to Hollyoaks as Mercedes, after a bit of a break, so the truth will no doubt unravel. But how?

If Lindsey finds out that Mercy is alive, surely she'll have enough evidence to clear Freddie's name. But wouldn't Grace and Mercy  be charged and sent to prison for faking her death? And that will also implicate Joe - so would Lindsey send her baby's father to prison?
