WATERLOO ROAD: School's out forever

Waterloo Road airs its final episode tonight, and I'm sad to see it go.

But we have been promised with a fitting end, by actress Rebecca Craven, who plays Rhiannon Salt in the BBC drama.

With the future of the school in jeopardy once again, the pupils and teachers are desperately trying to stop a merger with Havelock High, but will they succeed?

Rather than dwell on the upcoming final ep, I thought I'd celebrate Waterloo Road with some of my favorite, and most memorable, scenes from the entire series...

1. Sambuca Kelly's death

This was mentioned in last week's episode, and it was the one scene I remember welling me up. The infamous Kelly family were brash and loud, but Same, underneath her exterior was kind hearted and actually quite a softy,
After suffering headaches in secret, Sam had a seizure, and it soon became clear that she actually had a brain tumour.
Her family tried to keep the news from her that she was dying, but Sam found out for herself, from her doctor, and she soon passed away with her mother and Tom Clarkson by her side.

2. Tom Clarkson himself

Tom was everyone's favourite teacher, wasn't he? He was cool, good looking and always there.
He had numerous relationships with his fellow teachers, saved many a child's life and also found himself in plenty of bother.  It was while trying to help a troubled teen that Tom fell to his death from the school roof.
He was a true Waterloo Road hero!

3. Izzie's death

Who remembers teacher Izzie Redpath? She was also the copper who tried honey-trapping Phil Mitchell on EastEnders!
Izzie had an affair with none other than Tom Clarkson, but they soon married and were happy living with Izzie's daughters Chlo and Mika.
Izzie met a grizzly end, when she's stabbed in the school car park, trying to protect then-head Jack Rimmer.
Tom continued to look after Chlo and Mika as though they were his own...

4. Steph Haydock

Say no more. Denise Welch made a great character out of Steph and her hilariously awful French lessons!
She was a good teacher underneath but wasn't too great at the language she was getting the pupils to learn!
Steph gave some of the funniest Waterloo Road moments!

5. Grantley Budgen

Again, like Steph, Grantley wasn't the best teacher but knew his stuff. He also gave some of the funniest moments. But alongside that were two stand out tragic ones. Namely when his wife Fleur was suffering Dementia and sadly passed away, along with Grantley's own tragic death. He's betting on horses in the sky, I'm sure!

6. Moving to Scotland

I wasn't confident that this would work. But it did and it did so well...
The introduction of the school house has been one of the best outcomes of the Scotland move, not to mention the drama of the crash which occurred on the way, claiming the life of Denzil Kelly.

7. Mr Chalk and Kevin

Ah, Chalky! He was a fun teacher and his fostering of Kevin was one of the sweetest storylines of Waterloo Road times.

I could possibly list great memories of Waterloo Road all day long, I reckon. But I've got to stop somewhere! And seven is my lucky number!

Do you agree with mine?

Let me know what your fave moments have been as we bid farewell to school forever...
