EASTENDERS: Who is Kat's secret son?

Friday's EastEnders was a bit different to the usual Walford visit.

I always enjoy being taken away from the Square, and as we followed Kat to the place she gave birth to Zoe, which she was shocked to find is and always was a Convent.
June Whitfield played Sister Ruth, who delivered Zoe, and we learnt quite a lot about why Kat is the way she is.

Kat's been mentally damaged by the abuse she suffered at the hands of her uncle, Harry, but this made much more sense when she emotionally told Sister Ruth that she thought her mum, Viv, didn't believe that she had been raped. 'You know what Kat's like...' was the staple line in the family home.

Some people I've spoken to didn't like the heaviness of the episode. but I enjoyed the answers it gave to the questions about Kat that we thought we already knew. Even her shock previous affair with Derek was bought up. He reminded Kat of Harry, He was disgusting and it was like she wanted it to happen again, she told Sister Ruth. It makes sense. Kat's mum ddn't believe her, so Kat's always thought it was all her fault, so she wants to relive it to prove something to herself, maybe? To punish herself or convince herself that it isn't and wasn't her fault.
I especially liked when Kat said that she was really 'Kathleen', she was a sweet and innocent girl back then, and deep down, is still sweet, soft and in a way, innocent, now.

'Kat's been looking after Kathleen all these years. Maybe it's now time for Kathleen to look after Kat...'

We weren't away from the Square all episode, however, and we also paid Stacey, Whitney and Lily a visit, too.
Stacey was feeling lonely, and so logged online to speak to a mystery man, who we were lead to believe was Lily's dad and Whitney's brother, Ryan.
But it was instead Stacey's brother, Sean. Who gave Stacey the mystery key, making her promise to look after it. It's important. It belongs to their dad... I wish I knew what was hiding behind the key, but I don't have a clue. Whatever it is must be big...

The back and forth between the two scenes soon came to make sense to some viewers, as when Kat returned to the Square, having told Stacey and Alfie that she  had reported what Harry did to her to the police to help with their investigations.
I'm pleased for the character. Kat, I feel, has been going round in big circles of late. She's still struggling with what happened to her as a child, and punishes herself, by ruining her marriage with affairs. But she soon told Alfie and Stacey that she's changed.
I really hope that Sister Ruth's words rang true, and that we will start to see a lot more of Kathleen now.

The sense really came into play, however, when we returned to the Convent to hear Sister Ruth being read notes from her book, from back in 1984:

Kathleen Slater.

Two children.

One girl - Zoe

One boy - ???

Gasps could be heard round London, I bet..!

The moment Kat's secret son is revealed...
When EastEnders producers said that there would still be a lot to come from Kat (and Alfie's) story, I didn't imagine that it would be this.
It's a brilliant twist, and it's given new life to Kat as a character. She only remembers giving birth to Zoe, of course, so does this mean that June Whitfield will be making a reappearance as Sister Ruth to tell Kat the truth.

There are also, I think, three theories about Kat's secret son...

1. Sean's the boy

This theory went around Friday night straight away, on social media.
Sean was mentioned throughout and in touch with Stacey, he matches the correct age of what Kat's son would be.
But I think this is a red herring from Enders.
Jean and her husband, Brian Slater, surely couldn't have kept such a secret. Especially with Jean being ever so fragile during her early (and some of her later) days on the Square with her Bipolar? I think a secret this big would have been let slip.
There's also the question as to why Charlie and Viv would choose to keep Zoe as their own, but give away her twin brother?
I doubt the baby boy died at birth, as if that was the case, I can't imagine it being such a massive secret.
If, and it's a big IF, Sean is Kat's son, then the only explanation I can see is that Jean and Brian had a boy (called Sean) who died as a baby around the same time Kat gave birth, and Kat's boy was given to the couple. Maybe Jean was in no state to realise the plotting of her husband and family-in-law, so she too, is none the wiser?

2. Kat's son is someone else on the Square

Okay, who? Any 31-year-old male Kat/Zoe/Slater-type lookalikes on Albert Square at the moment? No? Well, that's another theory gone... But wouldn't it be fab to have another 'You ain't my Muvva!' moment!?

3. Irish baby

We know that Kat and Alfie will be leaving the Square for a while at the end of the year for a six-part spin-off, which will follow them to Ireland.
Is this where they will track Kat's son down and bring him home?
As I've said, this story brings a whole new dynamic to Kat - will she find her long-lost offspring, and if so, will he want to know her? Has he got a family he loves already, and doesn't need to be welcomed into the screaming, EastEnd, Slater clan, or will he welcome a new family with open arms?
Having said what I did in the 'Sean' theory about the family keeping Zoe, but not her twin, maybe the rest of the Slater's have no idea about Kat's other child. It was only Viv present at the birth (along with Sister Ruth and Kat, of course) so did Viv make this decision on her own?
Can I also just put in a request... If Kat's son is in Ireland, and turns out to be a gorgeous Irish charmer... Emmett Scanlan, would be perfect, please. (My inner Brendan Brady #Hollyoaks obsessive would be complete!)

Were you shocked by the latest Slater secret?

Who do you think is Kat's son?
